Attendance
Attendance Percentages
- 95% in a test is a good score
- 90% attendance isn't - over a year it is the same as having nearly 4 weeks off school in a year!
- 90% attendance each week means a student is having a half day off a week.
See the grid below for other percentages and see how much time off per year it adds up to

Effect on achievement
- 17 days of school missed could potentially mean at least one GCSE grade dropped on average
- 17 school days missed equals 91.1% attendance for the year
- 34 schooldays missed equals 82.1% attendance for the year
Holidays
A two week holiday means you cannot get more than 94.7% attendance in that year and you will miss 50 lessons. That's a lot to catch up on!
Holidays or leave of absence taken in school time are not authorised unless there are exceptional circumstances.
Late arrival in school
When your child arrives late at school, he or she misses the teachers instructions and the induction to the lesson.
Minutes late per day during the school year | Equals days worth of teaching lost in a year |
---|---|
5 | 3.4 |
10 | 6.9 |
15 | 10.3 |
20 | 13.8 |
25 | 20.7 |
Frequent lateness can add up to a considerable amount of learning lost, and can seriously disadvantage your child.
School begins at 8:45 AM, please help your child to be punctual.
All students should aim to be in school by 8:40 AM.
